For a quarter of a century Lynfred Winery continues to truly
be an experience of discovery for all whom turn into its cobblestone drive!
The journey for Lynfred Winery began in 1979 in the historic Fenz home on Roselle
Road, but after a decade of growth, expansion became a necessity. In 1997,
Lynfred opened its new 24,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility, all handcrafted
after the craftsman style of the original winery. The new facility features
an exquisite tasting room and gift shop, elaborate wine making facilities,
a private kitchen with a wood burning oven, and a four-suite bed and breakfast.

For three years, Wilbert and Martha Rittmueller visited various Mid-west and New York wineries. The results of those visits was starting this wonderful business. After a long search for the right location, the perfect spot was found on a nine acre tract of land a few hundred yards east of I-80 on Route 6. The location featured easy access to local people and interstate travelers, and provided the potential that was desired for the birth of the new winery.
The name was chosen for several reasons. Fond childhood memories of Martha's grandmother and a visit to a lavender field helped fuel the decision to enhance the experience the owners wanted to share.

August Hill's 3-acre vineyard stands atop a bluff on the south side of the Illinois River on the same property as the winery. The first 2 1/2 acres of vines were planted in the spring of 2003 with the help of many family and friends. Each hole was dug by hand, and each vine was planted by hand.

Fox Valley Winery is located in Oswego, Illinois with two additional locations in Geneva and Sandwich.
